So, we are hard at work here at the john lee house. I have been doing lots of spring cleaning and found alot of stuff written over the years and since I am the most nostalgic fool you know, I will share this one little ditty with you guys.

This Girl, These Eyes

So, it’s two days after christmas & i was thinking about this girl. You don’t know her, but she’s pretty great this girl. Actually she’s the kind of girl that everyone digs. Like I said, you don’t know her, but if you did; you would dig her. Seriously, everyone does. Everyone with common sense that is. I, for one, REALLY dig her. I can’t help it really. I really can’t. You see, she has this thing. It’s like magic pixie dust stuff. I’m not sure you understand, but really, it’s intense. This girl you don’t know, she’s got something more. What I am trying to say here is, she’s got “these eyes”. Now, i know what you are thinking, we ALL have eyes. TRUE, but she has “these eyes”. How “these eyes” got so godamned beautiful, I don’t know. Sometimes tho, when she looks at me pretty, cause girls do that, they look at you pretty; it just knocks me right out. Knocks the wind out of me, just breathless. You know what I’m saying? Another thing she does after she knocks me out, when she’s still looking at me pretty, with “these eyes”. She puts a spell on me. FOR REAL! A REAL GODAMNED SPELL! She just keeps on looking at me with “these” godamned “eyes’ and my brain has melts, my heart keeps pounding and I will do ANYTHING she says. ANYTHING! really, I would swim in a lake full of beavers if she said the word. Sigh. Everytime I see “these eyes” it kills me, it really does. I don’t know how they do it and all, but the girls you fall in love for, they put spells on you. They really do.

I can’t tell you guys how much fun I had dj’ing with them jokers of the scene. It was beautiful. I8A4RE threw down some serious jams before me, I really enjoyed his set and i was up next and then …. BLAMMO, he dropped SLIM THUG’S opus “LIKE A BOSS” just like it was nothing. Needless to say, I started sweating. That song used to be my anthem. I played that song at punk rock clubs, at bar mitzvah’s, in my mom’s car, err you get the picture. ANYHOW, I was kind of str3ss3d and after some equipment issues that plagued my night, I think I threw down pretty OK. It wasn’t what I had planned (I had the mad evil electro set down tight!) but i don’t think I needed to make people more AGGRO then they needed (more on AGGROness l4t3r).

After I was done, I needed some john lee time. So i put on the ipod listened to some FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS and cried a bit (for reals, I cry a bit much someone born in the seventies) across the street from the club (called BABYLON of all names). After that I came back in, re-energized and ready to rock out some more. The Jokers (Dj Booth and Chameleonic) were murdering it, Kids were dancing their tusshies off. I was just dancing my ass off too and lots of nice people came up and told me they enjoyed my set, which is enourmously nice of them and I enjoyed meeting all them great peoples. For some reason The jokers dropped a Niravana track and for some reason i thought that was my cue to stage dive.
WRONG!
I feel on some poor girls, and everyone got hurt (including my ribcage). I got up, picked the girl up, said i was sorry, asked if she was ok and if she wanted me to buy her a drink or help her out in anyway. You know what she said? She yelled at me and blew me off. I was so bummed I just left, got another heineken and sat on the couch for a while.

My production assistant Jade brought my some sunshine and made me dance a bit so I got back into it. Then an old friend of mine called GREGULAR (awesomest dj ever, well let’s just say he play’s what I like to hear, hah!) came up to me and rocked my ass up and down the dance floor with his beautiful girlfriends (how can I still manage to be single, i do not get)(le sigh).

ANYHOW, Gregular ws doing to get back in touch type dealio and wanted my number. The music was too loud so I asked him to come outside to talk and we did.

Coming back in, the people I stage dove on saw me and started yelling at me calling me names (that just cannot be repeated but very much along the lines of wife beater) and proceeded to kick my ass. RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CLUB!!!!
Needless to say I got kicked in the face and the ribcage alot. HUng out in the fetal position with my hands in my face and took it. Because since you can’t reason with cokeheads, i just took it like a man. I could have beat them with my skateboard or my fists, BUT I choose to get beat up, since fighting will get you nowhere. Hate begets hate, so I choose to turn the other cheek.

The weird thing is the bouncer instead of saving my ass, started threathening me. I have to admit that after I got up and away from the mobscene, I started yelling and waving my skateboard and getting pretty angry. Wouldn’t you, if a group of people kicked your ass in front of the club you just rocked out at. i tried to talk to them, my friends tried, all these people wanted was my face to cave in.
this is so to be continued, it’s crazy.

Right now, I need to eat some food with two amazing friends and think about life some more.

On october 19th, I saw Justice kill the metropolis twice in a row. I had a hand in throwing a most legendary afterparty at a venue that will still remain unsaid. I got invited to come over and see the show in NYC at a place called the Terminal 5. We left Montreal at one am to arrive in the big apple at eight am. Called up my friends finger on the pulse and got the key to their apartment. Tried to find a bank to get some canadian dollars transformed in to american ones (way more complicated than it should have been). Missed our 4 o’clock photo shoot with the midnight juggernauts (no thank you silly banks and rush hour traffic). By then we were told that we would wait around alot, and I guess I underestimated New York City. I will not dwelve into detail, but let’s just say that we did not get in the show for awhile and that all the pictures we have are from after the last notes were played. Afterwards the gang went to a great place called the Beatrice Inn and partied up till the sun rode his ass into town.

Thanks to my driver Rodrigo, my photog Dan, my most magical intern ever Jade for being patient and understanding of the bureaucracy of New York City hipness and how low my name is on the said list.

Also a big thank you to Gaspard et Xavier, Bertrand, Alexandra, Amandine, Pedro, Vincent and the juggers, the whole road crew, Joe the bouncer who drove our sorry asses around.

Another huge thanks goes to Daryn and Greg (finger on the pulse) for being most gracious hosts, my love is yours always.

I know I am forgetting a couple of people but I am still hungover drinking some pabst blue from a can.

All in all there is no way any of this would have happened if not for a huge list of amazing people.

MEG! MEG! MEG!
The meg festival has been so good to me over the year and this year was no exception. Crystal Castles played the best set I have seen them play and I feel in love with them all over again. The show was packed with so much awesomness that it made me forget the fact that they didn’t want to talk to us of an interview. Keep in mind that this is the first weekend of The John Lee Show and we could barely get our camera into parties.
Much thanks to Zelia and Alex A. from the meg for being there before we were cool (are we cool yet? If not, Thomas could you send a memo to the world about it?)

My mom, Brenda Lee, made this slide show for me on my 28th birthday. I cry when I watch it. I aiin’t gonna front, I cry sometimes. Whatever the cure said is bunk, boys can cry.
